ÓU has 6 research centers (ABC Center for Intelligent Robotics; Bio-Tech Research Center; SmartLab Knowledge Center for cross-disciplinary and innovative business activities based on the R&D competencies; Alternative Energy Sources Research Center; Physiological Controls Research Center (PhysCon); and HECON – Health Economics Research Center) under the umbrella of the University Research and Innovation Center (EKIK). The John von Neumann Faculty of Informatics (NIK) strengthens the professional background of BSc, MSc and doctoral (PhD) training with nationally and internationally recognized researchers, specialists and outstanding companies in the field of R&D. In addition to education, it focuses on the integrated cultivation of a strong research and development-centric organization, biotechnology, health informatics, robotics, and applied computer science. These activities feedback to the NIK’s activities in the area of Artificial Intelligence primarily at its Institute of Biomatics and Applied Artificial Intelligence (BMI). ÓU is the only higher-education institution that launches general technical higher-level vocational training in Hungary, where the last year specialisation in mechanical engineering, electrotechnics and electronics, light industry, printing, environmental engineering, water management can be attained. ÓU, in order to strengthen the practice-oriented education and cooperation with the industry (involving company representatives into the education, closer industrial collaborations), has performed curriculum development in numerous fields for the last years (blended, MOOC, etc.). In the course of industrial cooperation (common courses, open days, job fairs, dual and cooperative educations), the companies declared more developmental needs and suggestions (soft skill development, practical knowledge, language skills, mobility). In the course of our developments we take these needs into account as they also foster the latter employability of our students.
